Rick Springfield’s return to the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan on April 17, 2026, proved that not even the threat of severe weather could keep fans away from one of the most enduring icons of the ’80s. With a possible tornado warning looming later in the evening, there was a sense of uncertainty outside—but inside the theater, it was all energy, anticipation, and pure nostalgia. As it turned out, the storms never interfered, and the show went off without a hitch.

If you’ve seen Rick Springfield before, you already know there are certain moments the crowd eagerly waits for—and he delivered every one of them. The signature bits were all there: playing guitar with roses and that bit where he walks through the audience during “Human Touch”! These moments feel less like routine and more like tradition, and judging by the audience reaction, they never get old.

One of the more unexpected (and amusing) moments came when a fan tossed a fake tiny hand onto the stage. It was one of those “what just happened?” instances, but Rick didn’t miss a beat—he seemed to immediately recognize where it came from, suggesting it’s part of some ongoing inside joke with a dedicated fan. It added a bit of quirky charm to the night and showed how much connection he still has with his audience.

While the classics were a big draw, it was especially refreshing to hear some of his newer material woven into the set. A standout was “Down,” a song he co-wrote with a member of Rascal Flatts, which brought a different flavor to the performance while still fitting seamlessly into his catalog. It’s clear he’s not just coasting on past hits—he’s still creating and evolving.

Having seen him at this same venue back in 2023, it’s remarkable how little has changed in terms of his stage presence. At 76, Rick Springfield is still absolutely killing it—full of energy, charisma, and that unmistakable connection with the crowd. The years haven’t dulled his performance; if anything, they’ve sharpened it. However I feel the need to mention, when I was leaving the show I heard a lady say “he didn’t take off his shirt”! For reference he has been known to play the last song or so shirtless, he did in 2023. So, sorry ladies he didn’t take his shirt off this time.

All in all, it was a night that proved why fans keep coming back, weather warnings or not. Rick Springfield doesn’t just put on a concert—he puts on an experience, one that continues to resonate decades into his career.
